Happy Halloween!

OneĀ of my all time favourite things is dressing up and costumes. I’ve loved it ever since I was a very little girl and as I got older the opportunities tended to diminish, but I love it every bit as much. The past few years I haven’t really had the opportunities, but this year we have a Boyo, and it’s his first Halloween. Downtown does quite the costume thing for parents and kids and so I said, all right – not only would Boyo have a costume, the whole family would. There was some debate over what. I considered Star Trek uniforms. I considered Star Wars stuff – really tried to convince Rudy that we should go as the Skywalkers (Luke, Mara and Ben) – but ultimately decided on Han and Leia, and little ewok. This made a lot of sense with Boyo’s nickname from his Auntie M, and I had an excuse to make a screen accurate version of Leia’s Senatorial Gown — I originally wanted to do Endor costumes, but I decided they’d be less iconic, and therefore less recognizable.
I pinned a lot of reference material and then I started out. The final version is not entirely screen accurate (but I think it can be with a bit more work).
I also pulled together a vest for Rudy – sadly not screen accurate as I ran out of time – and I decided to simply purchase Boyo’s ewok costume – he’ll outgrow it soon enough, and it wasn’t that expensive.
It was a lot of fun, and worth the work!
Now onward to Boyo’s birthday because *gulp* that’s coming up very quickly!
Cheers!
