Craftsy Things.

Craftsy Things.

So, this week I am taking the week off work and just being home. This is a rather radical concept for me because I’ve never done it for a full week before & I plan on doing it at least twice this summer & I am hoping it will rejuvenate me some — I feel as if I could take two or three or four months and it wouldn’t be enough, particularly considering how anxious I am about next year, but hopefully it’ll help.

So yesterday I managed to mostly complete my first sewing project & I finished the rest of it up this morning. I’ve got the fabric for the next two and may end up going back to the store to pick up a couple of more — we’ll see how many I get through this week.

I actually cut everything out at the first of the month, I wanted to just have it ready to go when I took my actual time off — this was a great thing as it meant I was able to nearly finish the project in one day as opposed to definitely two.

The patterns laid out and uncut.

Brina really loved the pattern cutting out process. Pattern paper is so fascinating! I had to watch her to make certain things didn’t get torn up.

Once it was cut up some she had even more fun…

Ready to go.

This was actually a fairly simple pattern so the majority of the time was spent on the decorations — particularly this snowman appliqué. I’ve never actually done appliqué before, so this was a bit of experience. Mostly I like how it turned out although it’s hardly perfect and if I had it to do over again I’d do the hat and mittens in red.

And basically done.

Ready to sew.

Nearly finished bunting.
And where we ended up last night.

It wasn’t that late, but my back started killing me around 11:30 so I decided to leave the final pieces till this morning. That was mostly adding the bias tape around the neckline and finishing that, which didn’t take very long. Then I also put the hat together this morning.

These are the finished (mostly) project. I still need to add a little yarn pom pom on the snowman’s hat, and also on the baby hat. I could have sworn I had white yarn, but I’ve looked and can’t find it… so I’m probably going to have to go buy some before I can finish that.

Anyway – the doll modelling it is my Kelly doll, which was basically my first doll when I was little and she’s a bit too small for this bunting, but you can still see the final product I think. There are a few additional photos in my Artsy Projects set on Flickr.
