Greetings from Orcas Island
Well, we are waiting for the ferry to Anacortes, which is a good reminder to get there in plenty of time for one: We’re in the off season!
We’re sitting in the Orcas Hotel and I’m drinking Earl Grey tea and Rudy is grading math tests. We had a fabulous weekend checking out the places where we’re going to be holding the wedding and I know I’m super excited. We were able to meet a lot of fabulous people from the church and also talk to some of the people we would be working with at the Inn and for flowers and some other things.
The island is beautiful. I love Eastsound, which is this tiny little town of about 150 people that somehow still manages to have a fabulous public library. (Take lessons, College Place!) There are dozens of little shops and boutiques and a couple of book shops, and everything is within walking distance from the Inn where we’ll be staying. I think the church and the Inn are within walking distance of each other as well, so long as one considers walking distance in terms of not three houses down.
It’s a lovely, slower paced location. And now that I’ve seen the places and talked with people on the Island, I’m feeling really good about the decisions we’ve made and I think we’re both excited to have our family and friends join us here for a weekend.
